Purnima stars in climate-focused documentary ‘Ostitter Lorai’
Popular Dhallywood actress Purnima has taken part in a new awareness-based documentary directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gazi Mahbub, best known for the hit film “Premer Taj Mahal”.
The actress, who has remained largely absent from acting in recent years, recently completed shooting for the documentary titled “Ostitter Lorai”.
The project focuses on the devastating natural disaster that struck Bhola district in 1970 and also highlights the growing impact of climate change and natural disasters in present-day Bangladesh.
The documentary has been produced for the private development organisation Manobsur Unnayan Sangstha (MAUS). The concept and planning were developed by the organisation’s chief executive officer Sohrab Lovlu.
Filming for the documentary has already wrapped up at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).
Speaking about her involvement, Purnima said she agreed to work on the project out of a sense of responsibility and because she appreciated its message.
“I liked the concept of the documentary. I took part in it from a sense of responsibility to help raise awareness among people. I always want to be associated with meaningful work,” she said.
Director Gazi Mahbub said the documentary revisits the tragic flood disaster in Bhola in 1970 while also addressing what Bangladesh should do in the face of increasing climate-related disasters.
According to the filmmaker, the documentary will be screened during a disaster management volunteer training programme organised by Manobsur Unnayan Sangstha as part of efforts to promote a climate-resilient Bangladesh. It will also be released online later.
Alongside Purnima, the documentary also features Kazi Hayat, Shiba Shanu, Tanha Tasnia, Shirin Shila, Mou Khan, and Joy Chowdhury.
