Dengue fever has claimed seven more lives across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, while 1,753 new patients were admitted to hospitals, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) daily bulletin released on Wednesday (September 16).

With the latest fatalities, the nationwide death toll from the vector-borne disease has risen to 171 this year.

Casualty tracking indicates a sharp uptick in fatalities through late Q3, with 74 deaths recorded in the first 15 days of September alone, following 43 deaths in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.

Hospitalizations and Regional Distribution

According to DGHS figures covering the 24-hour period ending at 8:00 AM Wednesday:

• New Admissions: 1,753 patients admitted nationwide, raising total hospitalizations this year to 56,916.

• Recoveries: 1,638 patients were discharged during the same period, bringing overall recoveries to 52,579.

  • Dhaka Division: 743 patients

  • Khulna Division: 349 patients

  • Barishal Division: 186 patients

  • Rajshahi Division: 153 patients

  • Chittagong Division: 177 patients

  • Mymensingh Division: 83 patients

  • Rangpur Division: 53 patients

  • Rajshahi Division: 153 patients

  • Sylhet Division: 9 patients

Health officials have warned that the high density of mosquito breeding sites during the post-monsoon period could sustain high transmission rates through November unless preventive vector-control efforts are accelerated.
