The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced a price hike for low-tier cigarettes, raising the maximum retail price (MRP) for a 10-stick pack from Tk 62 to Tk 65.

The revised pricing came into effect following a gazette notification issued on Wednesday (September 16), signed by Acting NBR Chairman Ahsan Habib.

Under the new directive, maximum retail prices for mid-tier, high-tier, and premium-tier cigarettes remain unchanged. The price adjustments follow a proposal recently approved by the Cabinet.

Price Structure Across Cigarette Tiers (10-Stick Packs)

  • Low Tier: Increased by Tk 3 to Tk 65 (previously raised from Tk 60 to Tk 62 under the FY2026–27 national budget).

  • Mid Tier: Unchanged at Tk 92.

  • High Tier: Unchanged at Tk 160.

  • Premium Tier: Unchanged at Tk 210 and above.

The latest price adjustment builds upon earlier duty revisions introduced in the FY2026–27 budget, which initially increased low-tier cigarette prices by Tk 2 per pack. Revenue authorities noted that prices across all other market tiers remain at their previously established budgetary levels.
