Bangladesh lost both their openers for ducks in 
the first innings of the second Test against Australia in Mackay today, 
making it the fourth time the team has suffered the unwanted feat in Test 
cricket.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Shadman Islam both failed to open their accounts as 
Bangladesh slipped to 9-2 inside the first two overs.

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc dismissed Shadman in the opening over 
before removing Tanzid in the second, putting Bangladesh under immediate 
pressure after they were sent in to bat.

The previous three instances came against India in Mirpur in 2010, Zimbabwe 
in Khulna in 2014 and Sri Lanka in Mirpur in 2022.

Tamim Iqbal, the current BCB president, also unarguably the best opener the 
country has ever seen, was the part of the unwanted record in the previous 
three times.

Since he retired from cricket, there was no chance for him to make it again 
but his namesake Tanzid Hasan Tamim brought him back in this record.

Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes were dismissed for ducks against India in 2010, 
while Tamim and Shamsur Rahman suffered the same fate against Zimbabwe four 
years later.

In 2022, Tamim and Mahmudul Hasan Joy both departed without scoring against 
Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for just 64 in their first innings.

They responded strongly with the ball, however, as left-arm pacer Shoriful 
Islam claimed six wickets to put Australia in trouble.

Australia ended the opening day at 165-8 from 40 overs, taking a 101-run 
lead.

A total of 18 wickets fell on a dramatic first day, leaving the second Test 
finely poised despite Bangladesh's disastrous start with the bat.
