The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite branch of Iran's armed forces, has carried out another attack targeting two US uncrewed military vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, marking the third strikes on American naval assets in the strategic waterway within seven days.

In a statement released Thursday night (September 10), the IRGC announced that its forces engaged two uncrewed US military vessels off the coast of Oman, believed to be maritime surface drones deployed by US forces.

In a separate update, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center confirmed that two US vessels were targeted at 19:10 GMT Thursday (1:10 AM Friday, Bangladesh time) by at least four missiles or loitering munitions. The strike caused a fire on board one of the vessels, while the operational condition of the second vessel remains unverified.

According to UKMTO coordinates, the attack occurred 7.4 kilometers off the coast of Khasab, the provincial capital of Oman's Musandam Governorate, bordering the Strait of Hormuz.

The 167-kilometer-long Strait of Hormuz, connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, serves as one of the world's most critical maritime transit choke points, historically handling roughly one-fifth of global energy shipments.

While geographically lying within Iranian territorial waters, commercial transit remained active until the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Iran on February 28. Commercial shipping through the corridor has since experienced severe disruptions following reciprocal maritime blockades, security warnings, and military strikes by both nations.

This latest incident follows reports of ballistic missile strikes launched by the IRGC targeting US Navy destroyers on September 6 and 7, followed by additional strikes on vessels on September 9. Thursday's engagement marks the third wave of direct strikes reported by Iranian forces in the area over the past week.
