Call to Strengthen Social Resistance to Build a Drug-Free Society in Pirojpur
Speakers at a seminar in Pirojpur emphasized that eliminating the menace of drugs requires robust community initiatives, family vigilance, and social resistance alongside strict law enforcement. To protect the younger generation from narcotics, authorities and civil society leaders called for integrating youth into educational, sports, cultural, and constructive social activities.
The awareness seminar titled "Social Initiative for Drug Prevention" was held on Monday (September 14) at the Nazirpur Upazila Agriculture Training Center with support from the district administration. Following the seminar, a discussion session took place involving the Nazirpur Upazila Land Assistant Commissioner, police station officials, and local press club leaders, followed by an anti-drug procession, leaflet distribution, and sticker campaign.
Moderated by Pirojpur district coordinator of the anti-drug social movement and senior journalist Md. Moniruzzaman Nasim Ali, the event featured addresses by movement committee convener Md. Mujibur Rahman, educator and journalist Sanjib Kumar Roy, Md. Yunus Ali Sheikh, and Md. Alamgir Hossain, with central coordinator Professor Md. Shah Alam in attendance. Organizers announced that similar grassroots awareness programs will continue across all upazilas and unions to foster a drug-free Pirojpur through a unified front of families, educational institutions, local representatives, and the media.
