Sanctity and Security of Mecca and Medina Must Transcend Political Conflicts: Islami Andolan Bangladesh Chief
Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and the Pir of Charmonai, has called on all regional actors to keep the security and dignity of the holy cities of Mecca and Medina entirely above political disputes and military conflicts.
In a statement issued on Wednesday (September 16), the Islamic leader expressed deep concern over recent regional security developments and siren activations near the holy sites, emphasizing that the Harmain Sharifain represents the emotional and spiritual core of over a billion Muslims worldwide.
"Mecca and Medina are not subjects of nation-state politics or partisan conflict; they are the ultimate red line for the global Muslim Ummah," Mufti Rezaul Karim stated. "The security and sanctity of these holy sanctuaries must remain entirely above all political rivalries."
Call for Restraint and Protection of Sacred Sites
Highlighting the responsibilities of both the regional military actors and the host nation, the Islami Andolan chief noted:
-
Adherence to Non-Targeting Commitments: Acknowledging statements from Houthi representatives disavowing intention to target the holy sites, he urged the group to strictly uphold this position without exception.
-
Avoidance of Escalatory Coalitions: Urging the Saudi Arabian government to exercise caution in its diplomatic and military engagements to ensure that regional geopolitical disputes do not inadvertently compromise the safety of the Hijaz region.
-
Custodian Responsibility: Emphasizing that the primary duty of the Saudi administration lies in safeguarding the sanctity, peace, and honor of Mecca, Medina, and the broader Arabian Peninsula.
Concluding his statement, Mufti Rezaul Karim reaffirmed the solidarity of the Bangladeshi public with the protection of the two holy mosques, stating that the people of Bangladesh remain committed to supporting the security and peace of the Harmain Sharifain.
