Bangladesh Bank Announces BDT 62,000 Crore Incentive Package to Ease Interest Rate Pressure on Entrepreneurs
Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostakur Rahman speaking at a financial exchange meeting in Rajshahi.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostakur Rahman announced a comprehensive BDT 62,000 crore economic incentive package designed to alleviate severe financial pressure on business entrepreneurs caused by high bank lending rates ranging between 12% and 14%.

Speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting at the Primary Teachers' Training Institute (PTI) auditorium in Rajshahi on Friday (October 2, 2026), Governor Mostakur Rahman detailed low-interest refinancing mechanisms intended to revitalize private sector growth. Among the flagship initiatives is the pilot scheme titled "Uddyog" (Enterprise), set to launch in November 2026, which aims to select 10 aspiring entrepreneurs from each upazila to mentor and establish 5,000 young business leaders nationwide. Additionally, the central bank introduced a BDT 10,000 crore refinancing scheme for marginal farmers featuring alternative collateral options instead of traditional land ownership documents. To support northern Bangladesh's agricultural sector, a dedicated BDT 3,000 crore scheme was also announced to strengthen the full value chain from crop production and cold storage to processing and international export. The meeting was chaired by BB Rajshahi Executive Director Muhammad Badiuzzaman Didar and attended by divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, chamber leaders, and banking executives.
