DHAKA — Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd. has announced that metro rail will operate till midnight throughout Ramadan, with peak-hour headway reduced to four minutes following the delivery of 40 additional coaches from Japan.

The decision follows record ridership of 4.1 lakh on a single day last week. 'Dhaka has fallen in love with the metro. Our job now is to keep that love affair punctual,' the DMTCL managing director smiled at a press briefing.

Commuters welcomed the news. 'I save two hours daily. That is two hours with my daughter,' said banker Nusrat Jahan, a regular on the Uttara–Motijheel run. Feeder bus services from stations will also extend hours, officials added.
