Four individuals were detained during a mobile court operation conducted under the "Mother Hilsa Protection Drive 2026" in Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali for illegally catching mother Hilsa. Subsequently, three of the detained individuals were sentenced to one month of simple imprisonment, while one minor was released after signing a bond.

The convicts are Md. Bahadur Hossain (30), son of Abdul Khalek Hawlader; Md. Alauddin (32), son of Md. Moti Khalifa; and Md. Sohag (32), son of Isahaq Hawlader—all residents of Nij Hawla village in Ratan-Taltali Union under Galachipa upazila. According to relevant sources, they were apprehended while illegally catching mother Hilsa in the Buragauranga River during the protection drive. The mobile court subsequently handed down the one-month simple imprisonment sentence to the three adults, while releasing the detained minor on a written undertaking.

Such drives are being conducted to implement government-mandated restrictions aimed at ensuring unhindered breeding and increasing the production of Hilsa. Concerned authorities have urged fishermen to strictly comply with the ban during the Hilsa breeding season.
