An attempt by a syndicate to seize a railway bungalow and surrounding 1.1 acres of land valued at approximately Tk 50 crore near the Panchmatha intersection on Shaheed Captain Shamsul Mridha Road (Airport Road) in Saidpur, Nilphamari, was foiled on Sunday morning (October 4, 2026).

The property, which houses the No. 110 Saidpur railway estate bungalow and had been illegally occupied as a 'Bits Coaching Centre' for about 17 years until the July uprising, was targeted by a group of around fifty youths led by Saidpur Political District Swechchhasebak Dal convening committee member Rana, who brought tin sheets and bamboo poles to set up a market under alleged commercial lease claims from the Pakshi railway estate department.

Upon receiving reports, journalists, local citizens, railway labor leaders—including BREL President Khairul Bashar and newly elected workers' welfare trust representative Abu Hasan—rushed to the spot. The illegal encroachment was successfully halted following the arrival of Saidpur Railway Workshop Divisional Superintendent (DS) Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, Railway Estate Department Engineer (AEN) Tauhidul Islam, and Sub-Assistant Engineer Shariful Islam. The encroachers fled the scene, leaving behind their materials, which railway authorities seized before posting a signboard designating the land for a multi-storied market under the Railway Employees Welfare Trust.

Saidpur Political District Swechchhasebak Councilor and former municipal councillor Farhad Hossain and Jubo Dal Joint Convener Rezwan Akhtar Pappu strongly condemned the unauthorized takeover attempt, stating that the party does not condone illegal acts. Accused Rana claimed over the phone that Pakshi railway estate officials had misled him regarding formal possession, while DS Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad stated that strict departmental and legal action—including potential fraud charges—will be taken against both the encroacher and any complicit railway officials if the lease proves fraudulent.
