Residents of Maheshpur, Khushipur, and North Neyazpur villages in Daganbhuiyan Upazila, Feni, have been forced for years to cross a dilapidated and hazardous bamboo bridge under constant daily terror.
Small children face the constant fear of falling into the canal, students have been injured after slipping, and locals face immense suffering during night travel or patient transfers—even resorting to banana-leaf rafts to transport deceased bodies for burial due to a lack of proper pathways. Despite repeated unfulfilled promises from local representatives for a permanent bridge, Daganbhuiyan Upazila Engineer (LGED) Masum Billah stated that a proposal cannot be submitted due to technical constraints regarding the lack of sufficient land for necessary approach roads.
As a result, this broken bamboo bridge over the Shomshankhali canal remains the only, albeit extremely risky, lifeline for thousands of villagers.
