Devastating Fire in Ishwardi Destroys 3 Houses, Losses Estimated at BDT 5 Lakh
The gutted remains of farmer Shamim Hossain's house in Kharjani village, Ishwardi, following a devastating late-night fire.

A tragic fire broke out in Ishwardi, destroying three houses belonging to a local farmer, Shamim Hossain. The blaze reduced cash savings, gold ornaments, furniture, and all essential household items to ashes, resulting in an estimated damage of approximately BDT 5 lakh, according to the affected family.

The incident occurred around 1:00 AM on Thursday night at Shamim Hossain's residence in Kharjani village under Dashuria Union of Ishwardi Upazila.

According to local residents, the fire originated in the cattle shed before rapidly engulfing two adjacent residential rooms. All three structures were completely gutted. Fortunately, the livestock managed to break their ropes and escape safely.

The affected farmer, Shamim Hossain, stated that he had saved around BDT 1 lakh in cash to fund upcoming vegetable farming and agricultural expenses, all of which was burned in the fire. In addition, gold jewelry, furniture, clothing, and other household goods were completely destroyed. "We could not recover even the gold ornaments from the debris. My overall losses stand at around BDT 5 lakh," he lamented.

Local villagers rallied together and successfully brought the flames under control. Upon receiving news of the incident, a unit from the Rooppur Modern Fire Service dispatched to the scene around 1:30 AM. However, as the narrow access road to the house was impassable for fire tenders, firefighters had to walk to the site, by which time locals had already extinguished the blaze, fire officials confirmed.

Fire service personnel preliminarily suspect an electrical short circuit caused the fire, though the exact cause remains unconfirmed. The family suspects the fire may have originated from a mosquito coil in the cattle shed.

Following the incident, local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami visited the damaged residence to offer condolences and distributed essential food relief, including rice, to the affected family.

Having lost their home and entire life savings, Shamim Hossain's family is facing immense hardship. They have urged the government for financial aid for rehabilitation, while local residents have appealed to affluent individuals to extend support to the distressed family.
