Abu Hanif Bhuiyan, a resident of Rajmangalpur village under Moniand union in Akhaura upazila, Brahmanbaria, has achieved notable success by cultivating hybrid bottle gourds without using any pesticides on a 25-decimal plot beside his home. Operating on traditional methods and an investment of around Taka 15,000 for land preparation, seeds, fencing, and weeding, Hanif began harvesting after about 55 days. He has already sold over Taka 4,000 worth of gourds and expects total sales to exceed Taka 60,000 this season, retailing them directly from his field for Taka 50 to Taka 55 each.
His chemical-free farming initiative has drawn considerable attention and visits from local residents and neighbouring farmers eager to learn his methods. Akhaura Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Masud Rana praised Hanif’s achievement as an inspiring example of profitable, low-labor commercial vegetable farming, noting that the local agriculture office maintains regular contact to assist and advise area farmers.
