A court in Munshiganj has sentenced 60-year-old Ebadat Mir to life imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old daughter in Louhajang Upazila. The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, with an additional one year of simple imprisonment in default. The verdict was delivered on Monday afternoon (October 19, 2026) by Judge Tehsin Iftikhar of the Munshiganj Child Violence Suppression Tribunal (District and Sessions Judge), as confirmed by bench assistant Md. Shahriar. The accused was present in court during the verdict and subsequently taken into police custody.

According to case records, the victim's mother worked and lived in a garment factory in Ashulia, leaving the girl at their home in the South Charigaon Ashrayan Project in Louhajang, where the father repeatedly abused her under threats. On January 19, 2015, locals caught Ebadat red-handed while committing the crime and handed him over to the police. A case was filed that same day at Louhajang Police Station by neighbor Yunus Farazi. Following testimonies from seven witnesses and the defendant's statements, the court handed down the sentence, with State Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Md. Jahangir Alam expressing satisfaction with the ruling.
