A line helper working for Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) died on duty after falling from a ladder in Syedpur, Nilphamari. The tragic accident occurred on Monday (October 13, 2026) around 12:00 PM in front of Unique Auto Rice Mill along the Syedpur-Dinajpur road in the Niamatpur Central Bus Terminal area.

The deceased was identified as Haider Ali (47), son of the late Jonab Ali, residing in the WAPDA Notunhat area opposite the main gate of the Syedpur Power Station. According to official and eyewitness sources, Haider was assisting a technician named Rashed in repairing an LT transformer connection. While climbing the ladder to hand over a wire-cutting tool to Rashed, Haider suddenly lost his balance and fell onto the hard road, sustaining critical head injuries. He was rushed to the Syedpur 100-Bed Hospital, where attending physicians declared him dead on arrival.

NESCO Syedpur Executive Engineer Alimul Islam Selim confirmed the incident, noting that the power line was completely shut down during the maintenance work. He expressed deep condolences over the tragic death, stating that the fatal injury resulted from the severe impact to the head upon hitting the road. Haider Ali leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter, and numerous relatives.
