A press briefing was held at the Munshiganj District Collectorate conference room on Monday (October 12, 2026) to mark the official launch of the nationwide data collection drive for the government's flagship "Family Card" program. The local briefing was connected to the central national press conference presided over by Minister for Social Welfare Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain from the PID Auditorium in Dhaka. Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Munshiganj, Syeda Nurmohal Ashrafi, chaired the local conference.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmohal Ashrafi emphasized that the Family Card program is a key government signature initiative aimed at women's empowerment, social justice, and economic independence. She issued a strict warning that zero tolerance would be shown toward any irregularities or corruption during the data collection process, warning of severe legal action against any negligence.
The conference highlighted that following the initial pilot phase launched by the Prime Minister in March 2026, the full-scale rollout began across the country on October 12, 2026, backed by a BDT 14,500 crore allocation for FY 2026–27. Across Bangladesh, 66,815 enumerators and 6,681 supervisors using specialized tablet devices aim to survey approximately 4.45 crore families by December 2026. In Munshiganj district specifically, 69 supervisors and 675 enumerators have been deployed across all upazilas and municipalities. The smart Family Cards will feature dual-chip, QR code, and NFC technology linked to the "TakaPay" payment scheme, allowing direct digital disbursement of allowances.
