A court in Kalapara, Patuakhali, granted a five-day police remand on Sunday (October 18, 2026) for interrogation of Al-Amin, the prime accused in the sensation-causing murder of a 10-month-old infant. Kalapara Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Rabbi Islam Roni passed the order following a remand hearing in the afternoon.

Earlier, the case investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md. Forkan of Kalapara Police Station, produced the accused before the court with a seven-day remand prayer. Notably, no attorney represented the defense during the hearing. Assistant Public Prosecutor Advocate Md. Abul Hossain confirmed that members of the local Bar Association collectively refrained from representing the accused as a mark of protest against the brutal killing of the innocent child.

The victim, 10-month-old Raiyan, went missing on Thursday morning while sleeping beside his father. Two days after his disappearance, on Saturday morning, police recovered the infant's body packed in a bag from a canal adjacent to Al-Amin's homestead in Ghutabacha village under Nilganj Union. Raiyan was the son of local resident Russel Khan. Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nazrul Islam stated that rigorous custodial interrogation of the suspect will help uncover the motive behind the murder and identify any co-conspirators involved.
