A senior Bangladesh Railway official and four crew members were injured after a railway inspection motor trolley crumbled and derailed during a routine track inspection between Phulbari and Birampur in Dinajpur.
The critically injured official has been identified as Sheikh Al Amin, Senior Sub-Assistant Engineer / Way (PWI) stationed at Parbatipur Railway Junction. The accident occurred at approximately 11:45 AM on Tuesday near the 351/6-7 kilometer mark as the inspection trolley was passing the Birampur outer signal. According to eyewitness and injured hammerman Mostafizur Rahman, the motor trolley suddenly broke down and collapsed, throwing PWI Sheikh Al Amin onto the tracks, causing him to lose consciousness after sustaining severe trauma to his head, arms, and legs.
Four other railway crew members aboard the trolley—identified as Abu Taher Liton, Mostafizur Rahman, Jikrul Haq, and Hasan Ali—were also injured and initially rushed to the Birampur Upazila Health Complex. Due to the critical nature of Sheikh Al Amin’s injuries, he was urgently transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Parbatipur Railway Assistant Executive Engineer (AXEN) Abu Zafar Md. Rakib Hasan confirmed the severity of the accident on Wednesday night (October 14, 2026), stating that medical teams are closely monitoring the engineer's condition. Motor trolley inspections are vital daily safety operations conducted under PWI supervision to evaluate track alignment, joint integrity, nut-bolts, and sleeper bar fittings across the northern railway zone.
