During a drive to protect mother Hilsa in Kalapara, Patuakhali, the fisheries department detained two fishermen along with 1,000 meters of illegal nets and one trawler.

The operation was conducted in the Rabnabad River from late last night until Tuesday afternoon with the assistance of the Payra Port Naval Police. Later, a mobile court sentenced one fisherman named Md. Rifat (19) to a fine of 1,000 BDT, and the seized nets were publicly burned and destroyed.

Meanwhile, another underage fisherman and the trawler were released after giving a written bond promising not to fish during the ban period. Executive Magistrate and Kalapara Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Yasin Sadek stated that operations against dishonest fishermen will continue to ensure the success of the fishing ban. It is noteworthy that the government has imposed a 22-day ban from October 8 to October 29 on catching all types of fish, including Hilsa, in rivers and the sea to ensure the unhindered breeding of mother Hilsa.
