Amid escalating concerns over the unauthorized use of celebrity likenesses through generative AI and deepfakes, Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has moved the Delhi High Court seeking comprehensive judicial protection for her personality rights and digital identity.
The petition came up for hearing before a single-judge bench presided over by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav. Sanon's legal counsel argued that the actor's face, voice, image, and digital persona are being exploited without consent across online platforms using artificial intelligence—including deepfake videos, fake voice generation, and fraudulent product endorsements. Justice Kaurav directed Sanon's legal team to submit relevant case laws, international legal research papers, and preceding judgments on celebrity personality rights. The court stated that a detailed order would be passed upon reviewing the submitted materials, fixing the next date of hearing for October 29, 2026.
Sanon joins a growing cohort of prominent Indian entertainment personalities who have sought legal remedies to safeguard their name, image, and voice from commercial exploitation and AI-driven cyber impersonation. On the professional front, the actress was last seen in the film 'Cocktail 2'—released on June 19—co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna.
