Actor RJ Mitte, best known for his breakthrough role as Walter White Jr. in the Emmy-winning drama Breaking Bad, has passed away at the age of 34 in Brownsville, Texas.
According to a report by Variety and a statement issued to the BBC by his representative, Mitte died by suicide on Monday (October 12, 2026). Brownsville police received a call around 12:50 PM on October 12, with authorities stating that the formal investigation into the exact cause and circumstances remains active. His representative expressed profound grief, hailing Mitte as a beloved actor, philanthropist, and tireless advocate for people with disabilities.
Mitte, who had cerebral palsy in real life, authentically portrayed Walter White's son in Breaking Bad, earning a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2014. Following the news, lead actor Bryan Cranston shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, describing his grief and recalling how Mitte joined the cast at age 14 in 2007, growing into a remarkably skilled actor who never let his condition become an excuse. Co-star Aaron Paul also paid tribute, reminding readers: "You are worthy of love and you are not alone." Beyond his acting career—which included roles in Hannah Montana, Switched at Birth, and Talking to Strangers—Mitte's life was marked by resilience, having supported his paralyzed mother at age 13 before founding 'The Mitte Foundation' to support children with special needs.
