Tollywood superstar Dev has found himself at the center of widespread social media criticism following promotional appearances in Tripura for his upcoming directorial debut film, Desu 7, alongside co-stars Subhashree Ganguly and Idhika Paul.
The controversy erupted after viral video clips from a recent promotional event in Agartala showed Dev wiping sweat from the foreheads of both Subhashree and Idhika with tissues, as well as kneeling down on stage to kiss Subhashree's hand. While fan groups celebrated the nostalgic chemistry between the former real-life couple, a section of netizens harshly criticized the gestures, labeling them as "over-acting," "cheap publicity stunts," and exaggerated displays intended solely to generate box-office buzz. Commenters raised questions regarding Dev's current partner Rukmini Maitra and drew comparisons between on-screen promotion and personal boundary lines. Produced and directed by Dev, Desu 7 marks the iconic Dev-Subhashree onscreen reunion after years of distance, with the romantic action-drama slated for a nationwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026, coinciding with Durga Puja festivities.
