Director Pratim D. Gupta Clarifies Ziaul Faruq Apurba’s Absence in ‘Chalchitra 2’, Confirming Film as Prequel
Filmmaker Pratim D. Gupta clarifies the timeline structure and character continuity for the upcoming prequel 'Chalchitra: The Ekchala Murders'.

Indian filmmaker Pratim D. Gupta has clarified the absence of Bangladeshi actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba from the newly announced second installment of the 'Chalchitra' franchise, confirming that the upcoming project 'Chalchitra: The Ekchala Murders' is a prequel set prior to the timeline of the 2024 crime-thriller.

Addressing fan queries across social media and Apurba's official fan club following the announcement that Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury has joined the cast, Gupta issued a detailed statement on Sunday (October 4, 2026). The director explained that because the narrative explores events occurring before those of the original film, 'Chalchitra: The Frame Fatal', Apurba's antagonist character naturally cannot feature in this storyline. Expressing deep appreciation for Apurba’s performance and dedication in the original project, Gupta rejected assumptions that the actor was replaced or written out, assuring audiences that should a future sequel extend the narrative chronologically past the first installment, Apurba’s character will return to the franchise.
