Tollywood Actress Sampita Pramanik Dragged on Kolkata Street by App-Cab Driver; Police Launch Investigation
Actress Sampita Pramanik, who sustained injuries after being dragged along the road by an app-cab driver near Kalighat Metro Station in Kolkata.

Tollywood actress and dancer Sampita Pramanik was injured in South Kolkata after an app-cab driver drove off while she was retrieving her personal belongings, dragging her along the road near the Rashbehari crossing.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night (October 6, 2026) after Sampita, known for her leading role in the television serial Baghini, finished a shoot at Tollygunge's NT-1 Studio and booked an app-cab to return to her home in Tala, North Kolkata. According to her complaint filed at Kalighat Police Station, an argument broke out during the trip regarding the route location and fare. Near the Kalighat Metro Station, the driver ordered her to disembark.

As Sampita stepped out and reached through the window to retrieve her handbag left inside, the driver accelerated abruptly, dragging her along the road as she clung to the door. Forced to let go, she was thrown onto the asphalt and struck by an oncoming vehicle before bystanders came to her assistance. The driver fled the scene with her bag. Kalighat Police have registered a case based on the provided vehicle registration details and are currently scrutinizing CCTV footage along the Rashbehari-Kalighat corridor to apprehend the suspect.
