Acclaimed Bollywood actress Vidya Balan and director R. Balki are set to reunite for a new Tamil film project, nearly 17 years after their landmark 2009 collaboration on Paa.
The 47-year-old actress officially confirmed the partnership on her Instagram handle, posting behind-the-scenes photographs holding a script with the caption announcing a "new beginning" under Balki's direction. While plot details and title remain under wraps, the project marks Vidya's return to Tamil cinema alongside Balki, who earned widespread critical acclaim for directing Paa, in which Vidya played the mother to Amitabh Bachchan's character. The announcement comes during a high-profile year for Vidya Balan, who is starring as 'Kantha' alongside Megastar Rajinikanth and Mithun Chakraborty in Jailer 2—scheduled for theatrical release on October 15, 2026. Additionally, she is set to appear alongside Akshay Kumar and Raashii Khanna in an upcoming comedy-drama directed by Anees Bazmee, slate for release on December 4.
