58-Year-Old Man Killed by Helicopter-Dropped Relief Package in Flood-Hit Bihar
An Indian Air Force helicopter executes low-altitude aerial relief drops over flood-inundated villages in Saran district, Bihar.

A 58-year-old man was killed in the flood-stricken Saran district of Bihar, India, after being struck by an air-dropped relief package dispatched by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Local law enforcement officials confirmed on Saturday that the incident occurred on Friday afternoon (October 2, 2026) near a designated relief distribution point in Parashurampur village under the Marhaura sub-division. According to Marhaura Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sabindra Kumar Das, the victim, identified as Anil Kumar Singh, was standing in a crowd when a heavy relief container dropped from a low-flying IAF helicopter struck him around 3:30 PM. In a concurrent mishap, strong rotor wash from the low-altitude flight blew off the corrugated tin roof of a nearby residence, injuring a woman who is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Following Singh's death, aggrieved villagers staged a demonstration by placing his body on the national highway, halting traffic to demand justice, proper safety protocols during aerial relief drops, and compensation for the victim's family. Local police have sent the body for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death while initiating an investigation.
