Authorities in New Delhi have enacted extensive security and transport restrictions to prevent a planned rally by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on Saturday (October 10, 2026), where demonstrators intend to demand the resignation of India's Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Delhi Police formally denied permission for the protest, citing procedural delays in the CJP's application and referencing public safety concerns stemming from violent clashes during a previous rally in July. To maintain public order, section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been enforced across Central New Delhi, prohibiting unauthorized public assemblies. The Union Home Ministry has deployed approximately 23,000 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel—comprising 221 companies—across the capital to establish a multi-layered security ring. Additionally, transport infrastructure has been heavily curtailed: the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) suspended operations at 57 central metro stations starting Friday night, while Indian Railways canceled 61 train services heading into New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations over Friday and Saturday to manage crowd inflow.
