Archived social media records belonging to 29-Year-Old Omani pilot Hamam Al-Hamani—the Flydubai co-pilot accused of attacking an Indian captain mid-flight during a Dubai–Tel Aviv passage—have revealed a history of deeply conservative social views and anti-women rhetoric, according to an investigative report by CNN.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) dating back to 2022, Al-Hamani recounted his mother's difficulties in finding him a suitable marriage partner due to his rigid personal conditions. Al-Hamani disclosed that he demanded any prospective bride wear a face-covering niqab and resign from employment after marriage. He noted that while several women initially rejected these terms, their attitudes abruptly shifted once his mother disclosed his profession as a commercial airline pilot. In another post from the same year, Al-Hamani expressed strong opposition to mixed-gender workplaces, claiming that co-ed professional environments lead to the moral degradation of women.
Investigators and intelligence agencies are analyzing Al-Hamani’s social media trail to establish his ideological trajectory leading up to Wednesday’s mid-air incident, in which he allegedly assaulted Captain Smit Machhar with a sharp object in an attempt to seize control of the aircraft. Captain Machhar and flight crew successfully subdued Al-Hamani and landed the plane safely.
