Saudi Arabia's air defense forces intercepted two Houthi cruise missiles over the capital city of Riyadh late Tuesday midnight (October 13, 2026). While the interception successfully destroyed the incoming missiles in mid-air, falling shrapnel and debris caused injuries to four civilians and damaged at least 15 residential homes in civilian neighborhoods, Saudi Civil Defense officials confirmed.
The midnight missile barrage was part of a coordinated multi-city attack launched by Iran-backed Houthi forces targeting key Saudi infrastructure in Riyadh, Dhahran, and Haradh. The Saudi Ministry of Energy reported that a cruise missile targeting a Saudi Aramco administrative facility in Dhahran was intercepted without causing casualties or structural damage to energy operations.
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Malki added that defense systems also shot down three explosive drones north of Riyadh and another cruise missile over the Al-Kharj region.
Following the attack, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman convened an emergency cabinet session in Riyadh. Condemning the escalation, the Cabinet warned that "severe consequences await the Houthis" and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's firm commitment to securing maritime freedom through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab strait, while pledging full military support for coalition operations to eliminate threats to international trade and regional stability.
