Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement executed a ballistic missile strike against Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia's southern Asir province on Tuesday, marking the latest in a series of targeted strikes against Saudi civilian infrastructure.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree declared in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) that the missile strike achieved a direct hit, causing structural damage and disrupting commercial flight operations at the airport. Saree issued a renewed warning to international airlines, advising against operating within Saudi airspace and reiterating that Saudi aviation infrastructure remains a key military target. Saudi authorities have not officially commented on the Abha incident, though Riyadh previously confirmed earlier Houthi attacks targeting regional airports in Jizan and Najran.
Concurrently, Yemen's internationally recognized government announced a significant military breakthrough along the Red Sea coast. Supported by Saudi air defense cover, government troops under the Presidential Leadership Council pushed Houthi forces back from the strategically critical Bab al-Mandeb Strait and entered the key coastal port city of Mokha (Mocha) on Monday (October 5). While Yemeni military officials reported Houthi retreats toward surrounding mountainous terrain, Houthi representatives rejected the government's territorial claims as groundless.
