Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi military movement has claimed responsibility for a new ballistic missile attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
According to an official statement issued by Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree, a single ballistic missile was launched at the international airport on Wednesday (October 14, 2026), achieving a direct and accurate hit on the targeted facility. While the spokesman did not detail immediate casualty figures or specific structural damage from Wednesday's launch, the attack follows an unprecedented escalation in cross-border missile and drone strikes against key Kingdom infrastructure.
Data compiled by Anadolu Agency indicates that between October 5 and October 11 alone, Saudi Arabia was targeted by 10 separate attacks across five major airports—King Khalid International in Riyadh, King Fahd International in Dammam, and regional airports in Abha, Jazan, and Najran. These strikes resulted in at least 20 deaths and left hundreds injured, forcing civil aviation authorities to temporarily suspend flights and issue travel advisories. A notable strike on Terminal 4 on Sunday ignited a major fire, killing a Pakistani national and injuring 11 others, following a devastating attack on Saturday that claimed 13 lives. Military tension between Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces has reached critical levels since July 2026, threatening regional energy and civil aviation security.
