Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has instructed all air operators to take immediate measures to mitigate passenger suffering following the cancellation of 10 Riyadh-bound flights from Dhaka, which has left 3,431 passengers stranded.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday (October 12, 2026), Minister Millat emphasized that airlines must proactively notify passengers and provide maximum care to those arriving at the airport. The flight suspensions stemmed from the sudden closure of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Briefing media alongside the Minister, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director Kaizar Sohel Ahmed disclosed that Biman is offering free-of-cost ticket adjustments to reroute stranded expatriate workers through alternative Saudi hubs in Dammam and Madinah.
Prioritizing individuals whose work permits and visas are near expiration, Biman is accommodating passengers based on seat availability to ensure they reach their workplaces safely. Pointing out the operational challenges caused by rolling short-notice closure announcements from Saudi aviation authorities, the Biman chief reaffirmed that supporting Bangladeshi expatriates remains an absolute priority.
