Cabinet Approves Relocation of Bangladesh Secretariat to Agargaon Old Trade Fair Ground by 2029
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani announcing the major decision to relocate the Bangladesh Secretariat to Agargaon by 2029.

In a historic administrative decision, the Cabinet has approved the relocation of the Bangladesh Secretariat from Segunbagicha/Abdul Gani Road to the Old International Trade Fair Ground in Agargaon, Dhaka.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting on Sunday (October 18, 2026), Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani confirmed that the new secretariat complex will be constructed across 31 acres of land with 100% self-funding by the Bangladesh Government. Spearheaded by the Prime Minister to establish an integrated, modern government operational hub, the target completion date for office migration has been set for 2029. The master blueprint includes fourteen 12-story administrative towers, basement parking for 3,800 vehicles, two mosques, a multipurpose hall, cafeterias, a post office, and extensive underground roads and underpasses to maintain smooth traffic flow. Current Secretariat premises may in the future house congested courts and administrative organs from Old Dhaka.

In addition to the Secretariat master plan, the Cabinet approved the core architectural concept for new additions to the National Parliament Complex while strictly preserving Louis I. Kahn's iconic original design. Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the Special Solar Energy Ordinance, 2026—enabling OPEX and CAPEX models for solar power adoption across public and private structures—expected to be officially promulgated on Monday. The Cabinet also approved renaming the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs to the “Ministry of Women and Child Affairs” and endorsed Bangladesh’s formal accession to the international Rotterdam Convention on Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides.
