Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam announced that the government will take immediate steps to procure dengue vaccines, assuring that funding will not pose any hindrance.
Speaking as Chief Guest at a shadow parliament debate competition on dengue prevention organized by Debate for Democracy at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) studio on Friday (October 16, 2026), the Administrator stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has given top priority to dengue prevention and treatment. To support impoverished citizens, DSCC will propose reallocating funds collected from anti-mosquito enforcement fines directly as financial relief to low-income families who have lost relatives to dengue.
Addressing the forum chaired by Debate for Democracy Chairman Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, Administrator Abdus Salam emphasized that while government initiatives are being scaled up, public awareness remains essential for eradicating mosquito breeding grounds. He classified dengue as a pressing national crisis requiring combined civic and political cooperation.
Highlighting past governance failures, Debate for Democracy Chairman Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron pointed out that scientific evidence supports vaccine efficacy, urging the health ministry to fast-track dengue vaccine procurement. In the debate competition titled "Civic awareness is more important than government initiatives in dengue prevention", the government team representing Kabi Nazrul Government College defeated the opposition team to emerge victorious.
