The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment convening its first meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has issued strict directives to eliminate all forms of negligence, corruption, and harassment against returning expatriate workers at airports.

The directives were passed on Thursday (October 8, 2026) during the inaugural meeting of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Standing Committee on the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban under the chairmanship of A. K. M. Fazlul Haque Milan MP. Ministry officials informed the committee that between February 18 and September 30, 2026, a total of 432,786 Bangladeshi workers migrated abroad for employment, including 36,590 female workers.

During the same timeframe, foreign remittance inflows reached $24.75 billion, marking an increase of approximately $2.80 billion compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The committee was also briefed on the emergency repatriation of 186 Bangladeshis from Iran amidst recent Middle East tensions, funded by the Wage Earners' Welfare Board.

Committee Chairman Milan urged ministry officials to maintain zero tolerance for financial irregularities among the 2,187 active licensed recruiting agencies and government bodies like BOESL. The meeting was attended by Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury MP, State Minister Md. Nurul Haque MP, Golam Mohammad Siraj MP, and senior ministry secretaries.
