
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with a high-level delegation from leading Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation on Sunday (October 11, 2026) at the Prime Minister's Office in the Secretariat to discuss expanding multi-sectoral investments across Bangladesh.
Led by Marubeni President and CEO Masayuki Omoto, the delegation explored partnership opportunities in Information Technology (IT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), cyber security, energy, fertilizer production, and agriculture. Highlighting Bangladesh’s growing pool of engineering graduates and competitive service advantages, both sides discussed a plan to launch an AI-driven Data Center in Bangladesh within the next 12 months. Discussions also centered on expanding Marubeni’s existing footprint in Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) and exploring the establishment of a second KAFCO fertilizer manufacturing plant.
On behalf of the government, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed Islam, ICT Advisor Rehan Asif Asad, and Special Assistant Shakirul Islam Khan attended the meeting, while CEO of Southwest Asia Region Susumu Wakamori and Bangladesh Country Head Manabu Sugawara represented Marubeni. Both sides expressed optimism that the upcoming Japan-Bangladesh Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will further accelerate bilateral trade and foreign direct investment.
