Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad addresses the press regarding the immediate vacancy of Reserved Women's Seat-23.

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has confirmed receiving the official resignation letter from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Member of Parliament Ferdousi Ahmed Mishu, affirming that her resignation takes immediate effect on Thursday (October 1, 2026).

Speaking to journalists in the Jatiya Sangsad tunnel premises, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad stated that MP Ferdousi Ahmed, who represented Reserved Women's Seat-23, personally submitted her written resignation letter at his office. The Speaker noted that under constitutional provisions, the seat automatically becomes vacant upon receipt of the letter, and the formal notice is being forwarded to the Election Commission Secretariat to initiate necessary by-election procedures. Responding to queries regarding the rationale behind her departure, Speaker Hafiz clarified that parliamentary rules do not require resigning members to state specific grounds in their resignation letters.
