The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a massive consignment of Indian sarees and a motorized trawler during a pursuit on the Kacha and Baleshwar rivers. Operating on a tip-off, a Coast Guard patrol team initiated a chase early Saturday (October 3) from the Baleshwar River near Charduani union in Pathargata upazila, eventually intercepting the trawler—identified as 'FB Haji Peyar' (Registration No. F-11549)—near the Kumirmara area adjacent to the old Bekutia ferry terminal on the Kacha River in Pirojpur.

While the suspects managed to flee during the operation, initial estimates indicate the contraband spans around 350 sacks, each containing roughly 90 to 100 sarees. Additional Superintendent of Police Nasrin Jahan stated that a joint operation involving the Coast Guard and Sadar police led to the seizure, and an exact count and valuation of the goods will be released following a complete inventory.

Coast Guard Contingent Commander Md. Ashraful Alam confirmed that legal procedures are underway to identify those involved and process the seized items.
