3 Jailed for 3 Months in Saghata Anti-Drug Drive

Saghata Thana Police arrested three individuals for consuming narcotics during an anti-drug drive conducted in Saghata, Gaibandha. Later, each was sentenced to three months of simple imprisonment by a mobile court.

Saghata Thana Police apprehended them during an anti-narcotics operation on Monday (September 7). Subsequently, the mobile court was administered by Executive Magistrate and Saghata Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ratan Kumar Dutta.

According to mobile court sources, legal proceedings were initiated against the arrestees across three separate cases filed under Section 9(1)(Ga) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.

The convicts are Rustom Ali (48), son of late Mohammad Ali, from Chinir Potol village, accused in Saghata Police Station Case No. 33 dated September 7, 2026; Mofijur (48), son of Mokor Akand, from Dakshin Jharabarsha village, accused in Case No. 34; and Shafiqul Mondal (60), son of late [Name], from Dakshin Chinir Potol village, accused in Case No. 35. All three are residents of Saghata Upazila.

As charges of consuming narcotics (cannabis and Yaba) were established before the mobile court, each convict was awarded three months of simple imprisonment under Section 36(1) Table 21 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.

Requisite legal formalities were completed against the convicts in accordance with the court order, after which they were escorted under police guard to Gaibandha District Jail.

Saghata Thana Police stated that such operations and legal drives against illicit drugs will continue going forward.
