Body of Missing Fisherman Struck by Lightning Recovered After Two Days
Payra Port River Police have recovered the floating body of a fisherman, Badal Sardar (25), from the Rabnabad River, two days after he went missing upon being struck by lightning in Kalapara, Patuakhali. His remains were retrieved on Tuesday (September 8) afternoon near the red buoy east of Payra Port Jetty No. 1. The deceased fisherman was the son of Md. Wahid Sardar of Kalaiya area in Bauphal Upazila.
According to Payra Port River Police sources, Badal Sardar cast his fishing net in the Rabnabad River amid light rain on the afternoon of September 6. A sudden lightning strike threw him off the boat into the river, causing him to go missing. Alerted to the incident, teams from the Payra Port River Police and Fire Service initiated a river rescue operation, though prolonged searches initially failed to trace him.
Payra Port River Police Outpost In-Charge Inspector Nayan Karkun stated that upon receiving information from locals, the fisherman's body was recovered from the river on Tuesday afternoon, adding that necessary legal procedures are currently underway.
