A court in Narail has sentenced a 25-year-old madrasa teacher, Meraj Ali, to life imprisonment for sodomizing a 10-year-old student. The court also slapped a fine of 300,000 BDT on the convict. Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam of the Narail Prevention of Violence Against Children Tribunal delivered the verdict on Monday (September 7) afternoon. The convict, Meraj Ali, is a resident of Rudrapur Kaliyabakri village in Damurhuda Upazila of Chuadanga.

According to the case summary, Meraj Ali called the 10-year-old victim into his room at a madrasa in Narail municipality on the night of July 10 last year and sodomized him. He then intimidated the victim, warning him not to disclose the ordeal to his parents. Over the course of two months, the teacher sexually abused the student multiple times, leading the victim to eventually confide in his mother. Once the incident surfaced, Meraj Ali attempted to flee, but locals apprehended him on July 12 and handed him over to the police, following which the victim's mother filed a case with Narail Sadar Police Station.

Tribunal Public Prosecutor (PP) Azibur Rahman Aziz stated that the court awarded the convict life imprisonment alongside a fine of 300,000 BDT, directing authorities to recover the fine amount and hand it over to the victim's family.
