Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh (Saleh Shibly) has cautioned that the nation faces a heightened risk of a severe dengue outbreak over September, October, and November, calling for immediate community-wide cleanliness drives to eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding sites.

Addressing a press conference at the Karabi Hall of the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon on Wednesday (September 16), Saleh Shibly emphasized that vector-borne diseases require proactive preventive action at the source rather than sole reliance on post-infection medical treatment.

"September, October, and November represent a critical window where the dengue situation could deteriorate significantly," Shibly stated. "Dengue cannot be countered through treatment alone. The primary vector—Aedes mosquito larvae—must be eradicated by clearing stagnant water from air conditioner trays, household containers, and outdoor depressions."

Key measures and directives highlighted during the briefing include:

• Daily Household Vigilance: Allocating at least five minutes daily to inspect and clear standing water around residential and official premises.

• Weekly Cleanliness Drives: Establishing regular Saturday cleanliness campaigns across neighborhoods to eliminate standing water hazards.

• Universal Participation: Stressing that vector threats affect citizens across all demographics—including government ministers, journalists, and the general public—requiring collective responsibility.

• Constructive Civic Engagement: Urging media outlets and political entities to prioritize public health awareness over political debate to safeguard national well-being.

The Press Secretary concluded by reiterating that citizen cooperation alongside municipal vector control programs remains essential to preventing widespread casualties during the upcoming peak transmission months.
