Politicians Must Become Corruption-Free First: Law Minister

Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has remarked that to build a corruption-free nation, politicians and political leaders must first free themselves from corruption. He stated that if politicians are not corruption-free themselves, people will laugh when they advise others to stop corruption.

He made these remarks on Wednesday morning during an exchange-of-views meeting with teachers and journalists at the Sailkupa Upazila and Pourashava BNP offices in Jhenaidah.

Addressing local leaders and activists, the Law Minister warned that if anyone takes money from others under the pretext of providing jobs, that day would mark their last meeting with him. He added that if he needs to assist anyone personally, he will do so, but if a task cannot be done, he will state it directly. He further noted that in the past, TR (Test Relief) and Kabikha (Food for Work) funds were withdrawn by showing work on paper only, but that loop has now been closed, ensuring that allocated funds are spent strictly on designated work.

Addressing the teachers and journalists, the minister urged them to ensure they can confidently state in their communities that their Member of Parliament and ministers do not accept bribes.

Later, the Law Minister attended a reception for meritorious students at Sailkupa Pilot Girls' High School. Addressing the students there, he highlighted artificial intelligence (AI) as a major challenge for the upcoming generation, noting that even those who created the technology are concerned about it. He added that the government is actively working on strategies to keep AI technology under control.

Presided over by the school's managing committee president, Salim Reza Thandu, the program was attended by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, former Principal of Cox's Bazar Medical College Prof. Dr. Subhash Chandra Saha, Upazila BNP General Secretary Humayun Babar Firoz, Pourashava BNP President Abu Taleb Mia, Senior Vice President Mizanur Rahman Bablu, Headmaster Fazlur Rahman, along with several hundred teachers and local journalists.
