Sri Lankan bowling legend Chaminda Vaas has been appointed as the new fast bowling coach for IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, marking his maiden coaching assignment in the Indian Premier League.
The franchise, led by Head Coach Sourav Ganguly, officially confirmed the appointment across their social media platforms. Vaas joins a newly restructured, star-studded coaching panel that already features former Indian legend Yuvraj Singh as batting coach. The 52-year-old Sri Lankan icon succeeds former Indian pacer Munaf Patel, who served as Delhi's bowling coach over the past two seasons.
Vaas, one of cricket's finest left-arm pacers with 355 Test wickets and 400 ODI wickets, brings extensive coaching experience having previously served multiple stints with the Sri Lankan national team, Ireland (2016 T20 World Cup), and New Zealand, as well as various global franchise leagues. As an IPL player, Vaas represented Deccan Chargers from 2008 to 2010, taking 18 wickets in 13 matches. Meanwhile, reports indicate that former Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra—holder of a record three IPL hat-tricks—is currently in talks to join the franchise as its spin bowling coach.
