Harmanpreet Kaur, who led the Indian women's cricket team to its historic inaugural ODI World Cup title last year, has stepped down from captaincy across all three formats.
The 37-year-old veteran announced her decision in a detailed Instagram post on Tuesday morning, following high-level discussions in Guwahati with BCCI Secretary Debajit Saikia, Vice-Captain Smriti Mandhana, and Head Coach Amol Muzumdar. Harmanpreet concludes her tenure as India's premier skipper, having captained the national side in 5 Tests, 51 ODIs, and 155 T20Is. Her leadership stint ended on a high note last month when she guided India to its second consecutive Asian Games gold medal in Nisin. Reflecting on her decision, Harmanpreet stated that putting the team ahead of personal ambitions and performance required difficult sacrifices, but expressed peace and immense pride in leaving the team in a strong position. She reaffirmed her commitment to continue serving Indian cricket strictly as a player for her remaining international career.
