Celebrating his 27th birthday on Monday, Bangladeshi fast bowler Hasan Mahmud produced a masterclass performance in the ongoing Test match against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, joining leg-spin legend Shane Warne in an exclusive statistical club.
By taking 5 wickets for 240 runs in Afghanistan's first innings, Hasan became the only bowler alongside Australian icon Shane Warne to record 5-wicket Test hauls across four specific nations: Australia, India, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During his spell, Hasan also scripted Bangladesh cricket history by taking a "perfect hat-trick" (Bowled, Caught, and LBW)—becoming the first Bangladeshi pace bowler ever to achieve a hat-trick in Test cricket.
This performance marks Hasan's fourth career Test 5-wicket haul since his international debut in March 2024. He recorded his previous fifers in Rawalpindi (against Pakistan), Chennai (against India), and Australia (where he took a 6-wicket haul in Bangladesh's historic victory last August). With four career Test 5-wicket hauls, Hasan now shares the record for the most Test fifers by a Bangladeshi pacer alongside Shahadat Hossain Rajib.
