Former Indian national cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed as the Head Coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, marking his first stint as a head coach in the prestigious tournament.

The 54-year-old cricket icon takes over from Hemang Badani, who served as Delhi's head coach for the previous two seasons. Ganguly has shared a long-standing association with the Delhi Capitals franchise, having initially joined as an advisor in 2019 before transitioning into executive and directorial roles across the franchise's global properties, including a recent head coaching role with Pretoria Capitals in South Africa's SA20 league. Expressing his enthusiasm, Ganguly stated that leading the Delhi Capitals holds deep personal significance and that he looks forward to building a fearless squad capable of challenging for honors. Delhi Capitals, alongside Punjab Kings, remain among the original IPL franchises yet to secure a title—their best performance coming in 2020 when they finished as runners-up. Under Axar Patel's captaincy and Badani's coaching, Delhi finished sixth in the 2026 season.
