Bangladesh Bank has raised the single-transaction limit for outgoing Bangladeshi citizens purchasing physical foreign currency from licensed money changers from $2,000 to $3,000.
The directive was issued on Thursday (October 8, 2026) in a circular published by the Foreign Exchange Policy Department of the central bank. Under the revised guidelines, licensed money changers are authorized to sell up to $3,000 in cash notes and coins to outbound travelers in a single transaction against their annual personal travel quota.
The move increases the single-purchase cash ceiling by $1,000 to ease foreign exchange collection for citizens traveling abroad. Central bank officials added that any remaining balance of a traveler’s annual personal quota can also be issued in other freely convertible and usable foreign currencies, subject to availability.
The policy adjustment is designed to provide greater liquidity and convenience to outbound travelers needing cash for emergency expenses prior to departure.
