Bangladesh’s export earnings across major Asian economies—including China, India, South Korea, and Japan—recorded steady growth during the first quarter (July–September) of the current fiscal year, reinforcing the nation's market diversification strategy beyond traditional destinations in Europe and North America.
According to data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh's total merchandise export earnings grew by 6.34 percent year-on-year in Q1, reaching $13.09 billion compared to $12.31 billion during the same period last fiscal year. Exports to China surged by 9.33 percent to $225.41 million, up from $206.18 million. Shipments to India rose by 5.44 percent to hit $510 million, while exports to South Korea registered a 7.29 percent increase to $134.55 million. Exports to Japan also maintained upward momentum, climbing to $399.11 million. EPB Vice Chairman Mohammad Hasan Arif highlighted that China's massive consumer market and India's geographical proximity present immense opportunities for product diversification beyond readymade garments into leather, footwear, jute goods, pharmaceuticals, and light engineering. He noted that participation in international events, such as the 10th China-South Asia Expo and the 30th China Kunming Import and Export Fair 2026, continues to connect local exporters with key regional buyers.
